HALLOWEEN

Being pregnant and busy I decided this year I would not sew halloween costumes for the boys- they could wear one from years past. Aaron thought this a wise decision and encouraged the boys to do just that.... with the alternative option of just being a mummy and having mom (me) pick up an old sheet at the thrift store to use or to be a Jedi knight (this suggestion was made to Jacob since he just acquired a lightsaver.) Unfortunately this information wasn't passed on to me. So the day before Halloween I am told by Gideon he has decided to take Dad's suggestion and be a mummy and Jacob also decides on the Jedi knight.
................................................mom wasn't too happy. Ever tried to get a bunch of cut pieces of white linen to stay up on a moving limb? So I would need to sew all the strips together and then overlap them twining around Gideon's legs and pin them in place then sew a seam up the inside and outside of the leg. ... later on as it was getting toward bedtime Jacob wonders when I will start working on his outfit. They are doing heavens who knows what while I am busy bending over my sewing machine (affectionately coined the jigsaw by Aaron). I was still working on the pants as soon as I got up the next morning and then realized after a few fittings that they will need to be lined or they get turned inside out inbetween a slit in the leg and become a demented mind game to straighten out. Jacob is now getting worried I won't have time to work on his. Instead of trying to sew a mummy top I decide to just throw a t-shirt on Gideon and wrap the rest of the long strip around him and let it fall where it may- it would look more mummiesh. (yes- I just made up that word :) I grabbed a pair of capri pants I will probably never fit into again anyhow and sewed them smaller down each leg. Perfect fit. Jacob is amazed. Then rummaging through my closet I come up with the rest of his outfit except the over-thing. If you know the name of the white over garment I don't want to know! :) So I had to sew that thing then I rummaged around for straps for his waist and a lifesaver belt holder thing. My floppy hat ties contributed and my belt (I won't be using it for a while anyway).
Hyrum was the caterpillar again (my personal favorite) and Ammon wore a thrit store found elephant.
Aaron was impressed when he got home and I couldn't decide if I wanted to bask in that adoration or ring him a peal about putting me in that position. I think he intuitively realized this and laid on the compliments extra thick. My vanity won out and we left a rather happy crowd to the ward trunk-or-treat. Leaving behind a recked house.
The boys got PLENTY of candy. They are still eating it and I have probably reduced the amount of each boys stash by half with my plundering... Aaron helped me in this endeavor. :)
Well, you probably just wanted to see the pictures of them so her you go...
He is really quite the poser, isn't he?
Ammon liked playing peek-a-boo with his costume and was really fascinated by the trunk for some time. He investigated it quite thoroughly and then chewed on it some. :)

Oh, Jen- they look so cute!! Jacob loks very cool in his jedi knight getup. The catepillar has to be my all time favorite - and Hyrum wears it well (sometimes it's about the costume more than the child). Gideon's is pretty impressive with just the right amount of order and chaos - as though he just woke from centuries of slumber. and I simply cannot believe how big Ammon is - in my mind he is still that cute baby that we took into the mountains last September. Great job! I think aaron still owes you some foot rubs and chocolate for this.
